Contract

The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), often referred to as “the Contract,” is the legally-binding agreement between the university and our union. The CBA is renegotiated periodically, usually about every 3 – 4 years. The Contract addresses everything from salary to workload, evaluation procedures to grievances.

The last full negotiation led to the CBA effective 2014 – 2019, which was extended by a Memorandum of Agreement for 2019-2021. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, we are currently negotiating a one-year rollover that will extend this CBA to August 2022.

Whenever the CBA is extended, the main section that is revised is the compensation article, Article 21.

A “Memorandum of Agreement” or MOA is a modification to the contract that is approved by vote of the union membership.

A “Memorandum of Understanding” or MOU is a modification to the contract that is negotiated and agreed to after consultation with the union executive board and membership, but which does not require a vote by the union membership.

We encourage every member to get familiar with the Contract!

Here are the current documents, which you can download and consult:

This Memorandum of Understanding was negotiated to address pandemic-related work conditions; signed at the end of April 2020.

UPI attempted to negotiate a follow-up agreement to address Fall 2020 through Summer 2021, but no agreement was reached, resulting in an Unfair Labor Practice claim and Grievance against NEIU.

This MOU creates a pilot of the Winter Term in December 2021 through January 2022.
