How We Relate to the Local, IFT, and AFT


The NEIU Chapter of the University Professionals of Illinois (UPI) Local 4100 is part of a larger labor movement.

We are affiliated with the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

University Professionals of Illinois Local 4100
With 3,000 members, UPI Local 4100 consists of eight chapters: Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, University of Illinois Springfield, Western Illinois University, and UPI 4100 Retirees.

Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT)
With 103,000 members, IFT consists of 200 locals, including the University Professionals of Illinois Local 4100, representing Illinois educators at the Pre-K through 12 levels and in higher education, as well as numerous public employees and retiree members.

American Federation of Teachers (AFT)
With 1.7 millions members, the AFT consists of 3,000 locals, including the Illinois Federation of Teachers, representing American educators at the Pre-K through 12 levels and in higher education, as well as numerous public employees, nurses and healthcare professionals, and retiree members.
