Grievance Committee
The Role of the Grievance Committee
The Grievance Committee is here to support and advocate for members by ensuring that the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA, or "contract") is respected and enforced. Members are always welcome to contact Lisa Wallis, the Chair of the Grievance Committee, also known as the Grievance Officer, at neiupigo@gmail.com. Please note that the primary role of the Grievance Officer is to help determine if the situation involves a violation of the contract, and if so, guide the member through the formal grievance process.
In addition, Grievance Committee members Tim Barnett and Durene Wheeler are offering in-person drop-in hours for intake on:
Mondays, 10:00 am-Noon, LWH 2016
Tuesdays, 3:30 pm-5:00 pm, LWH 3033
Wednesdays, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm, LWH 3033
Every initial conversation will include an in-depth review of the situation, using a structured approach to make sure all key aspects are addressed. Before meeting with a member of the Grievance Committee, please consider the following questions to help us have a productive conversation:
What happened?
Has the contract been violated? If so, what section/article?
When did it happen? When did you find out about it?
Who else is affected by this issue?
How have others in similar situations been treated?
What outcome are you looking to achieve? What are you willing to live with?
What witnesses and relevant documents are you aware of?
Have you taken any steps to resolve this issue already?
What’s the other side’s version of the story? Why do you think this is happening?
Can the union organize around this issue?
These questions will help ensure we have a thorough understanding of your situation and that we address it in the best possible way.
